The Delhi Judicial Academy will prepare a manual for the Women and Child Development (WCD) Ministry about the rights of female prisoners and for improving their condition, an official said.
The manual would also include the entitlements of children staying with their mothers in prison, a senior WCD official said.
According to law, children can to stay with their mothers in prison till they are five years old.
Asserting that the condition of prisons needs to be assessed and a manual on the rights of the women prisoners will be prepared, the official said, "The Delhi Judicial Academy will give us a manual on what should be the entitlement of women and children in prisons."
The WCD Ministry had earlier said that 70 prisons have been inspected and the recommendations were being finalised.
Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi had said that a report based on the study of the condition of women and children in prisons has been prepared and its recommendations will be presented to the Home Ministry and the Supreme Court.
