Areas across the city may face shortage of water as Uttar Pradesh has curtailed raw water supply from upper Ganga canal to carry out maintenance work in it.

"On account of breach in Upper Ganga canal near Khatoli the raw water supply to water treatment plants at Sonia Vihar and Bhagirathi has been curtailed," a senior Delhi Jal Board official said.

He said production of water at both the water treatment plants has been affected due to cut in raw water supply by the neighbouring state.

The official said authorities concerned in Uttar Pradesh have taken up repair work in the canal due to which supply of raw water has been curtailed.

"The DJB has been assured that the repairs will be carried out on war footing," the official said.

He said supply of water will be affected mainly in East, South and South-West Delhi for next couple of days.
