The husband of a municipal councillor has been arrested in connection with the murder of a property dealer in Uttam Nagar of south-west Delhi in November last year, police said today.

Ashish Tomar, 29, was arrested by a team of Crime Branch from near Dwarka Sector 14 metro station last week. Court proceedings had earlier been initiated to declare him a "proclaimed offender" in the murder case, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).

An unlicensed pistol of 7.65 bore and two live cartridges were recovered from his possession, he said.

"Tomar disclosed that he, along with his gang members Punit, Praveen, Henry, Sushil and Sombir, had hatched a conspiracy to murder property dealer Bijender in a land dispute. On November 8, Punit and Sombir shot dead Bijender near his house," said the officer.

Punit was arrested by the Crime Branch in November, 2016. He disclosed that the he had "handed over the weapon" used in Bijender's murder to Tomar, he said.

"Tomar's wife is a sitting councillor of MCD from Uttam Nagar area (Mohan Garden ward). He had joined the notorious gang of Manjit Mahal and is a close associate of dreaded criminal Nafe Singh," he said.
