Delhi Police today arrested a man for allegedly making extortion calls to a businessman of northeast Delhi to demand Rs two lakh per month as "protection money".
The arrested has been identified as Deepak Yadav, a resident of Karawal Nagar area of northeast Delhi, police said
"We received a tip-off that a person wanted in a case of extortion would come to Dusra Pusta of Karawal Nagar yesterday. Police laid a trap and arrested him," said a senior police officer.
The officer said Deepak along with his associate Bhagat Choudhary had contacted the businessman of Karawal Nagar and asked him to pay Rs 50,000 per week or Rs two lakh per month as "protection money".
"The duo recently went to businessman's showroom and threatened to kill him and his family if 'protection money' was not paid," he added.
