The special drive conducted between June 28 and July seven during which 24 people, who were evading arrest, were apprehended, Additional Commissioner of Police (South-East) Ajay Chaudhry said.

"The drive is a great success. Even proclaimed offenders of cases as old as registered in 1989 have been arrested during the drive," he said.

Two of them were women -- Ramdo Bai, who was declared proclaimed offender in a excise case of 2003, and Kamla Devi, who was involved in a 1989 dowry harassment case, he said.

The personnel tasked to trace the proclaimed offender had to gather information, including verbal as well as documentary in bits and pieces from varied sources.

The officers meticulously followed the trail through these tell-tale marks without knowing whether their efforts will bore fruits or not, Chaudhry said.
