In a special drive launched in the aftermath of the Uber rape case, Delhi Traffic Police have impounded more than 500 cabs for violation of permit conditions and challaned nearly 4000 drivers for various violations.
32-year-old Shiv Kumar Yadav, the cab driver accused of raping a woman finance executive in an Uber cab last week, had allegedly submitted a fake character certificate issued in the name of an Additional DCP of Delhi Police to obtain an All India Tourism Permit from the RTO.
Following the revelation police has launched a special drive in this connection. It is also aimed at strictly imposing the ban on Uber cabs announced by the Transport Department.

Random checking of taxis carrying women was also carried out in which 1,423 vehicles were stopped and checked. This exercise shall be continued by Traffic Police in future as well, he added.
Other than this, in a special drive against drunken driving which took place yesterday Traffic Police issued challans to 239 persons and have impounded 193 vehicles. As many as 106 checking teams were deployed in the drive against drunken driving.
