Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik Thursday flagged off five more refurbished tourist patrol vans of the Police Control Room (PCR) here, taking the number of such specially designed vehicles to 15, a statement said.

According to the statement, induction of these vans will bolster the strength of the tourist police unit, which is already operating 10 tourist patrol vehicles at as many locations in the city.

The refurbished tourist patrol vans will be more conspicuous with pictures of important tourist places depicted on either side, the statement said.

The tourist police personnel will also be wearing yellow-maroon coloured badge with Tourist Police LOGO on their left arm, it said.

"Considering the large volume of domestic as well as foreign tourists everyday in Delhi and encouraging feedback about functioning of the tourist police, the need was felt to deploy more tourist patrol vans at some other tourist places, which receive huge footfall of tourists including Terminal-I, IGI Airport, Lotus Temple, Akshardham Temple, Delhi Haat and Jama Masjid," it added.

As per the statement, each tourist patrol van will be manned by police personnel including women staff with specialised training in hospitality, behavioral skills, working knowledge of English and general tourist information.
