Other measures taken by police to improve safety of women across Delhi include self-defence programmes to be organised in select areas and security audit of women hostels and paying guest accommodations by the local police station staff.
Police stations will also be required to maintain a database of such premises, a statement said.
Further, placement agencies would be monitored by the police to ensure that they are not used as fronts for illicit activities like human trafficking and efforts would be directed toward sensitising ground level police personnel in dealing with women complainants.
These decisions were arrived at after deliberations between civil society stakeholders- which included NGOs, government agencies and women activists working in the field of women safety and empowerment- and the police.
"This is the first among a series of meeting between the civil society stakeholders and the police. We are doing this not only to receive inputs regarding safety of women in public spaces but also to develop a more gender sensitive and responsive police force," Neeraj Kumar, Delhi Police Commissioner said.
