As part of efforts to put forth a people-friendly image, Delhi Police is opening up its facilities for public, especially underprivileged sections, for vocational training and recreational purposes.

City Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said they were opening several facilities like Battalion grounds to public so that they can use them.

He said under the YUVA programme, which is being extended to several areas, youths can get vocational training as well.

At a function, Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna commended police's initiative and said such steps should be encouraged.

'Yuva' is aimed at encouraging school going children of slum colonies to engage in sports activities to build their self confidence and wean them away from crime.
