With Tamil Nadu refusing to host the Asian Athletics Championships, government is mulling shifting the premier event to Delhi, Pune or Ranchi.

"We have given a letter to the Ministry of External Affairs to shift the event to Delhi, Pune of Ranchi," Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Jitendra Singh told the Lok Sabha during Question Hour.

He was replying to a question from AIADMK member S Semmalai.

At the same time, Singh strongly disapproved of Tamil Nadu government stand on the issue.

"It is very unfortunate that the Government of Tamil Nadu is mixing politics and sports," he said, triggering uproar from AIADMK members.

Semmalai recalled that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had refused to host the Championship to protest the killing of LTTE chief V Prabhakaran's 12-year-old son allegedly by Sri Lankan armed forces.

Earlier, the Speaker had disapproved of the question put by Semmalai saying it was not related to the topic of 'Sports Promotional Schemes' which was being discussed.
