The Public Works Department of the Delhi government will carry out renovation work in city- run children's homes.

The move comes after the Women and Child Development Department observed that children housed in these institutions were facing "inconvenience".

As per directions of Juvenile Justice Committee, PWD Chief Engineer U S Mishra has been nominated as nodal officer to coordinate between various agencies to enable execution of civil and electric work in children's home.

"It has been observed that there are several pending matters related to repair and renovation of civil & electric work by PWD in government-run child care institutions.

"The children housed in these institutions faced inconvenience due to the said reasons," the Women and Child Development Department said in an order.

An official said that district-wise sub-committees have also been constituted for better implementation of renovation work by the PWD.

As per the order, in north district, two children homes - Special Home and Place of Safety for Boys - will come under renovation work while in south district, the same will be carried out in five child care institutions.
