The Public Works Department (PWD) of the Delhi government has decided to procure six vacuum cleaning road machines, in addition to as many machines already in service, to reduce air pollution in the city, an official said today.
The senior government official said that global tenders would soon be floated for hiring mechanical sweepers to clean the city's roads.
"We are expecting to hire six vacuum cleaning road machines by December. The PWD has already six such mechanical sweepers," the official said.
In November last year, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had directed the PWD to re-introduce within two weeks vacuum cleaning on 1,250 km of roads under the agency.
