Today's maximum was five degree Celsius above normal and up from yesterday's 43.5 degrees while the minimum was at 28.2 degrees Celsius, up from 26.8 degrees and one degree above normal.
"Mercury touching 45 degrees is not unusual for the month of May in Delhi," a MeT official said.

As the temperature rose to 45 degree Celsius, the demand for power rose to 5,155 MW, which is an all-time high for the capital.
Only five days ago, the capital had set a new record in power consumption by touching 5,032 MW when the city recorded a maximum of 44 degrees Celsius.
The humidity during the day was between 16 and 32 per cent.

Tomorrow too, the Weatherman predicted, the day temperature may remain around 45 degrees Celsius.
According to the MeT Office, it will be a clear sky tomorrow with the temperature oscillating between 29 and 45 degree Celsius. Earlier, on May 10 and 11, the city had recorded a maximum of 42.6 degree Celsius.
A Delhi government statement said Delhi has broken all previous records in respect of the highest power peak demand today as it touched 5,155 MW at 3:23 pm.
"This was successfully met without any load shedding or diversion of power. All the distribution companies were geared up to meet the current peak demand of 5,155 MW which is highest peak ever in the history of Delhi," it said.
