In his first law and order meeting after taking over the reins of the 80,000-strong force, Delhi Police chief Alok Kumar Verma today instructed all district officers to ensure police presence in secluded and poorly-lit spots and also improve their interaction with the public.
All Deputy Commissioner-rank officers have been asked to visit at least one police station a week to review its activities and records. Officers have been asked to improve intelligence gathering, pay special attention to property crimes and ensure security to vulnerable groups, a senior official said.
The meeting today started at around 4 PM and lasted for about three-and-a-half hours. Among those present were all Special, Joint and Deputy Commissioners.
"The officials have been asked to ensure police presence in crime-prone areas and poorly-lit spots and also arrange regular meetings with resident and market associations to improve the interaction with the public," said DCP (PRO) Rajan Bhagat.
Verma laid stress on intelligence gathering and improving the maintenance of crime records.
The officers have also been asked to pay attention to the disposal of complaints and redressal of public grievances, Bhagat said.
