Delhi Univ student from Assam thrashed, 1 held

In yet another incident of crime against people from the Northeast, a 21-year-old Delhi University student from Assam was today allegedly beaten up by other students following an argument in the college canteen.

The incident took place in PGDAV College in South Campus area here this afternoon when the victim, Pran Saikia, who is a final year student of Political Science (Hons), was beaten up allegedly by one Sonu along with his other associates over a petty issue in the canteen.

Saikia, who sustained injuries on his lips, cheek and eye, reached the principal's office to complain about the incident, following which the principal asked the security guards to close all exit points of the college to nab the main accused. But by that time he managed to flee.
 

Sonu, who is in his 20's and who was pursuing B.A. First year from the same college has been suspended by college authorities.

"Sonu was booked and arrested for his offences," said a senior police official.
