Icy winds swept through the national capital as it recorded the lowest temperature for this date in the last five years.
"This is the coldest January 29 in the last five years. The minimum temperature settled four notches below the season's average at 4.8 degrees Celsius, 3.1 degrees less than yesterday's minimum," said a MeT department official.
However, as the sun shone bright through the day, the maximum temperature settled at 18.7 degrees Celsius, which was still three notches below the normal.

Visibility improved significantly as the day progressed. It was recorded 1,800 meters at 11.30 AM and 3,000 meters at 2.30 PM and 5.30 PM.
Due to fog in the morning, 50 north-bound trains were delayed and two trains cancelled, said a northern Railway official.
The humidity in air today oscillated between 94 and 36 per cent.
MeT officials predicted clear skies for tomorrow with moderate fog in the morning.
"The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover at 19 and 6 degrees Celsius respectively," said the MeT forecast.
