Delhi woman held with Rs 45 lakh gold at IGI

A woman has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle in a gold bar worth Rs 45 lakh at the international airport here.

The woman, who hails from Delhi, was intercepted on Saturday at the airport by custom officials after her arrival from Dubai.

"On X-ray of her baggage some suspicious image was noticed inside a bag (she was carrying) near the handle. On opening, one gold bar weighing 1,500 gram (1.5 kg) was found concealed in between the metallic rim and the cloth of the bag near handle," customs officials said.

The total value of the gold bar is assessed to be Rs 45 lakh, they said.
 

She was arrested and the gold bar was seized, the officials said, adding that further investigation are on.

A man was arrested on August 24 for allegedly trying to smuggle in gold bars valuing over Rs one crore at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport.

Over 4 kg gold bars were concealed in specially designed pocket of his trouser, a custom official had said.

On August 17, two passengers were arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle in gold valuing about Rs 55 lakh at the IGI airport in separate incidents.
