Chanting slogans against the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, VHP protesters, led by national secretary Surinder Jain, demanded commencement of the annual Amarnath Yatra from June three.

Jain alleged there was a deliberate attempt by the Board to reduce the duration of the yatra.

"Till 2009 the yatra ran for two months, it was only after that there have been consistent efforts by the Board to tamper with dates of the yatra.

"The Board's plea that the road is not clear for the yatra and the weather is not feasible, these are all excuses to reduce the duration of the pilgrimage," Jain said.

Bajrang Dal activists staged a motorcycle rally from Satwari area in the city and asked the Board not to tamper with dates of the yatra.

The Baba Amarnath and Baba Buda Amarnarh Yatri Niyas said they would make all arrangements for the pilgrimage irrespective of its date of commencement.

"Niyas was formed with an intention to facilitate the yatra and we will make all arrangements for the yatra whether it starts from the June 3 or from June 25," Niyas president Surinder Mohan Agarwal said.
