A number of casual labourers of various government departments in Jammu and Kashmir today held protest demanding framing of regularisation policy for all casual labourers and need-based workers engaged after 1994.

Under the banner of JK National Trade Union Front, the casual labourers of Public Works Department (PWD), Public Health Engineer (PHE), Floriculture and Jammu Development Authority (JDA) today held protest in front of Divisional Commissioner office here and raised slogans against the government.

The protesting workers urged the state government to frame regularisation policy for all casual labourers and need-based workers who are working in various departments for the over 10 to 15 years.

State president of JK National Trade Union Front Mohammad Gafoor Dar condemned the "delay" by the state government in regularisation and payment of pending wages.

Dar appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to take up the issue in the next Cabinet meeting for "final settlement of this long pending demand as per his commitment with the representative of casual labours and left over daily wagers."

"If the demands are not met in the next Cabinet meeting scheduled for August 25, we will launch massive protests at all the district headquarters in the state on August 27," Dar said.
