Demonetisation: KTK CM holds review with bank, state officials

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today took stock of the prevailing situation in the state in the wake of demonetisation of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes by the Central government.

He held a meeting of senior finance department and Bank officials on the currency issue, CMO officials said.

Expressing concern about the inconvenience being caused to public while waiting in long queues in front of banks, the Chief Minister has directed officials to take adequate measures to ease the situation, they said.

Long queues are being witnessed at bank branches across the state to withdraw money and also to exchange the demonetised Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes.
 

ATM machines are running out of cash and in most cases them being dysfunctional is adding to the problem.

Meanwhile, the state Health and Family Welfare Department has directed government hospitals to provide adequate medical treatment and counselling to patients 24/7 and not to deny medical service under any circumstances.

Stating that there are repeated reports about patients facing difficulty in getting treatment at private hospitals in the wake of demonetisation of Rs 500 and 1000 notes, the department in a circular has said that in a situation where the treatment or its availability is difficult, patients can avail treatment from their near by government hospital.

Signed by the Principal Secretary of the Department Shalini Rajneesh, the circular also asks patients to reach out to department officials or contact 104, for guidance under difficult situation.

Also arrangements have been made wherby contacting 108, patients can be admitted to the government hospital where necessary treatment is available, it added.
