Demonetisation to help gain transparent economy: BJP

BJP national spokesperson Gopal Agarwal today said the Modi government's demonetisation move is a mean to achieve a transparent economy that would benefit people in the long run.

The demonetisation of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes would enable the government to ensure that the citizens of the country comply with the various tax laws, Agarwal told a press conference here.

He said the money that would come to the government's exchequer by implementing the demonetisation scheme across the country would be used for infrastructure development and for the upliftment of the poor and the marginalised.

Agarwal said the Centre is insisting for transactions through the various electronic devices that are presently available.
 

In a country like India, government would not force on the citizens for a complete cashless transaction and those who would like to continue with the old cash transaction system, could continue, he said.

He, however, reiterated that the new system of transaction would ensure transparency, check corruption and blackmoney would be monitored.

Agarwal said the government would monitor all those bank accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (MPJDY), launched on January 26 last year, to prevent the flow of money that do not belong to them.

He said any unusual entry of money through these accounts would be watched closely and no withdrawal would be allowed without proper verification.

"If the money is genuinely theirs, they would be allowed to withdraw it," he said.

He also criticised the Opposition for not allowing the Parliament to function.

Though the government has brought in important legislations to fight various forms of malpractices, all these were sadly pending in the Parliament, Agarwal said.

He said when the NDA government at the Centre was formed the after the General Elections, BJP vowed to fight corruption and weed out blackmoney and the Northeastern states have been given due attention to speed up the development of the region.
