Religious leader Baba Umakant Maharaj today hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for demonetising 500 and 1000 rupee notes, saying in the long run it will impact economy in a positive way and will curb black money.
The religious leader, who represents Jai BabaGurudev Ashram, also demanded that PM should declare cow as national animal for its protection and complete ban on liquor.
"What the Prime Minister has done is really appreciating move. This will in long run have a positive impact on the economy and eventually curb black money and corruption. People should understand this, instead of giving negative reactions," he told reporters here.
"Corruption is one of the major problems and the decision will hit the menace," he stressed.
Baba Umakant said,"The PM should consult religious leaders on issues of Kashmir, triple talaq and other issues so that they can be positively settled."
He said that businessmen and industrialists purchased huge chunk of lands from farmers and the land bank is with them. "Now (after demonetisation), this trend will stop and farmers will be more focused on producing more grains."
Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that high denomination notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 will no longer be legal tender to fight against black money and corruption.
