Demonstrations before Bangladesh visa office

The Buddhists and Hindus of different organisations like Chakma Youth Cultural Forum (CYCF) and Viswa Hindu Parishad walked in a procession chanting slogans like 'Stop state terrorism on Buddhists and Hindus in Bangladesh' and 'Arrest the Muslim fundamentalists who attacked Hindu and Buddhist temples'.

Later they submitted a memorandum to the Bangladesh Government through the First Secretary of Bangladesh Visa Office here urging the government to stop repetition of such attacks.

Visa Officer, Obaidur Rehaman when contacted, said a six Member delegation of the Buddhists and Hindus submitted the memorandum in "a very cordial atmosphere" for dispatching it to the government.

 

Srota Ranjan Khisha, spokesman of the delegation alleged that in the last week of September, Islamic fundamentalists launched an attack on the Buddhist community in Ramu, Ukhiya, Teknaf and Cox's Bazaar municipality area under Cox's Bazaar district of Bangladesh following a Facebook posting from Chittagong defaming the Koran.

"In this attack, at least 25 temples, including 2 Hindu temples, and around 50 houses belonging to Barua community were completely burnt and more than 250 houses ransacked and Looted. Hundreds of families left their houses for safer places", Khisa said.
