Dengue claims kid's life, over 1,000 afflicted in WB

Nine-year-old Sreeja Das died of dengue at a private hospital on August 20, Kolkata Municipal Corporation's KMC (health) Atin Ghosh said here today.

Ghosh said that of the 1,405 blood samples collected in the city, 774 had been proved positive in NS1 and 204 in IGM tests (essential for confirming dengue).

He said that in all the 141 wards of the KMC, massive fogging operations were being carried out along with mass awareness campaigns.

The vector-borne disease has spread fast in adjoining Bidhannagar where several cases had been reported.

Dengue attacks have also been reported from Asansol and Siliguri, sources said.

 

KMC sources said that over 200 cases had been reported from Kasba, Garfa, Haltu and EM Bypass areas in southern fringe in the last few days.
