Following the incident at Thambalagamuva in Trincomalee district, outraged public health inspectors in the area have refused to carryout their duties.

Upul Rohana, an official of the public health inspectors' union, said they would meet soon to discuss the steps that they would want the state to take in order to ensure their safety.

The suspect is due to be produced before a psychiatric.

Following an unprecedented rise in the number of dengue cases the government had ordered a crackdown to cleanse the environment.

During the first six months of this year a three fold increase of dengue cases have been reported.

More than 11300 patients reported with 76 deaths.
