Dense fog, chill returns to Punjab, Haryana

After a brief respite from foggy conditions, thick fog today engulfed most parts of Punjab and Haryana today affecting flights and trains even as chilly conditions aggravated in the region with minimum temperatures falling sharply by up to three degrees Celsius.

Dense fog returned in Punjab and Haryana reducing visibility considerably, the MeT office said here.

Most parts of Punjab and Haryana, including Ambala, Chandigarh, Hisar, Bhiwani, Karnal, Amritsar and Ludhiana, were engulfed in dense fog this morning.

As a result of foggy weather, air, rail and road traffic in the region remained adversely affected. While as many as seven flights from Chandigarh airport were delayed, many trains, including Howrah, Shatabdi, Shan-e-Punjab, and Lucknow Express, were running behind schedule.
 

The minimum temperatures in the region fell sharply by up to three degrees Celsius and hovered between four degrees Celsius above normal to one notch below normal, the MeT office here said.

Karnal settled at a low of 16.5 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal while Patiala had a low of 10.6 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal.

Among other places, Ambala had a low of 10.3 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal followed by 10 degrees Celsius at Chandigarh, also three notches above normal; 9.6 degrees Celsius at Ludhiana, three notches above normal; 8.6 degrees Celsius at Bhiwani.

Hisar settled at a low of 8.2 degrees Celsius, Narnaul 6 degrees Celsius and Amritsar 4.4 degrees Celsius.

The MeT office has forecast foggy conditions in the region.
