A 24-year-old student from a Government Dental College was allegedly raped by a UP-based external examiner here, police said today.

Based on the girl's complaint yesterday, a case has been registered against Vikas Verma, 45, a professor in RIMS college in Uttar Pradesh, who came here to take a viva exam in the dental college last week, City Superintendent of Police (Kotwali) Anshuman Singh Sisodia said.

The incident took place on December 26 at a hotel here, where the accused had called the girl to accompany him for an outing in the city, Sisodia said.

In her statement, the victim - a final year student - said that Verma befriended her on Facebook few months back.

He was then called by the Dental College, Raipur as an external examiner for taking viva exam on December 25.

Next day, the professor asked the girl to come to his hotel as he wanted to visit some places with her.

When the girl reached his hotel room, he sexually exploited her and threatened her not to reveal the incident to anyone, the CSP said.

The victim, however, narrated the incident to her parents following which they approached Maudahapara police yesterday and lodged a complaint in this connection, he said.

A case under section 376 (Punishment for rape) of IPC has been registered against the accused and a team will be sent to UP to nab him, the CSP said, adding, further probe was on.
