Denzel Washington tapped for Cecil B DeMille award

Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington has been named the recipient of the 2016 Golden Globes' Cecil B Demille award.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association will honour the two-time Oscar winner, 60, for his contributions to showbusiness at the organisation's 73rd annual awards ceremony on January 10 next year, reported Entertainment Weekly.

"Washington's long and storied career is earmarked by his countless roles in front and behind the camera," Lorenzo Soria, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) said in a statement.

"It is the HFPA's privilege to honour his contributions to the entertainment industry with the Cecil B DeMille Award."
 

Previous recipients of the prestigious prize include Woody Allen, Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, and George Clooney.
