Elections to the Deori Autonomous Council and the Thengal Kachari Autonomous Council has been postponed to December 15 from the earlier notified November 16 by the Assam State Election Commission considering representations from some organisations for postponement.
The Commission considered the representations for postponement on the grounds of difficulties due to simultaneous ongoing process of by-election to 14 Lakhimpur Parliamentary constituency, said its release today.
The State Election Commission's decision was also considering upon feedback received from some District Election Officers about practical difficulties in simultaneously conducting the two elections.

Date for withdrawal of candidatures is up to 3 PM of December 1, while publication of list of contesting candidates will be published the same day, the notification said.
Polling will be held on December 15 between 8 AM and 4 PM, re-poll if any will take place the next day, while counting of votes to both the Autonomous Councils will be held on November 17.
The election schedule already notified on October 21 in respect of Thengal Kachari Autonomous Council shall remain suspended and will recommence from November 23, it said.
The nomination(s) filed by any candidate up to 3 PM today shall be treated as nomination duly filed during the period of nomination and shall be taken up for scrutiny on November 29 as per the revised scheduled.
The Model Code of Conduct will continue in connection to elections to both the Councils till the process of election gets completed, it added.
The names of 18 constituencies with reservation status to the Deori Autonomous Council are: Jorhat Constituency (ST), Majuli (ST), Tengapani (ST Women), Rajabari (ST), Dibrugarh (Gen), Sadia (ST), Margherita (ST Women), Sisi Borgaon (ST), Bordoloni (ST), Jonai (ST), Bordeuri (ST), Kinapathar (ST Women), Kachikata (ST), Pichala (ST), Gabharu Toonijan (ST), Bahgarah (ST), Bangalmara (ST) and Sonitpur (ST).
The 22 Thengal Kachari Autonomous Council constituencies are: Nagabat (ST), Borholla (Gen), Madhapur (ST), Phulbari (ST), Dihingia (ST), Titabar (ST Women), Samoguri (ST), Baruajan (ST), Jalukonibari (ST), Tamulbari (ST), Thengal Kamar Gaon (ST), Gelabil (ST), Kachomari (ST), Chawdang Pathar (ST Women), Chawdang Pathar Doyang (ST), Bangalmora-Pub Dikrong(ST), Pavo-Laluk (ST), Lakhimpur East(ST), Bihpuria South(ST), Jakaipeluwa Harmoti(ST), Rupohigor Pora (ST) and Merbil Naharkotia(ST).
