With an aim to spare animals from brutality during training and performance, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has barred depiction of cruelty towards them in advertisements and programmes on television.
"We have made certain changes in the existing norms which bars the depiction of cruelty to animals in advertisements and programmes on television," an Information and Broadcasting Ministry official said.
Hailing the measure, Humane Society International (HSI)-India urged the people to report any cruel and illegal depiction of animals to its tipline.
"The ministry's notification, which amends the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, follows rigorous campaigning by HSI India and People for Animals. HSI-India is encouraging people to report the depiction of animal cruelty on TV and cable shows to its tipline," it said in a statement.
