The Anti-Corruption Bureau today arrested a Deputy Director of Sports Authority of Telangana for allegedly taking bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the parent of a sports student.

The parent in a complaint to the ACB last month had alleged that certain irregularities took place in the allotment of priorities by the Sports Authority of Telangana for admission into MBBS/BDS course under sports quota for the academic year 2017-18.

The complainant alleged that G Venkataramana, Deputy Director, member of scrutiny committee of the SATS, had demanded and accepted bribe of Rs 1 lakh for issuing a copy of the allotment of priorities to sportspersons for admission into MBBS/BDS course under sports quota, ACB's Deputy Director General M Ramana Kumar said.

After preliminary inquiry, a case of criminal misconduct was registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

ACB sleuths today carried out searches at the residences of Venkataramana and four other sports officials for collection of further evidence.

Required documentary and digital evidence has been collected from the office of Sports Authority of Telangana and it is being verified, Kumar said adding Venkataramana has been arrested.
