A deputy engineer was arrested today for allegedly accepting the second instalment of the bribe amount of Rs 24,000 in Durg district of Chhattisgarh, an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) official said.

"Chandra Kishore Pandey (55), posted at Dhamdha janpad panchayat, allegedly demanded bribe from Sarpanch of village Tarpori for issuing final evaluation report of construction works in the region," the official said.

According to ACB, a grant of around Rs 17.60 lakh was sanctioned by the government under 'Gram Utkarsh Yojna' to Tarpori Gram Panchayat for laying concrete road and a community hall in Dhaurabhata village.

The Sarpanch Shantilal Dahariya had lodged a complaint alleging that Pandey sought Rs 50,000 for issuing evaluation report of the construction works.

The accused had earlier received Rs 26,000 and asked Dahariya to give rest of the amount later.

As Pandey was accepting the money today, he was apprehended and the bribe amount recovered.

A case under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, has been registered against Pandey.
