The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a resident Deputy Collector and another person here for demanding a bribe of Rs three lakh from a contractor.

Pravin More, deputy superintendent of ACB, said the district administration had given a contract for data entry to the complainant who submitted a bill and approached the resident Deputy Collector Rajesh Itware (57) for sanctioning it.

Itware allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 3 lakh.

The complainant promised that he would pay him after the bill was cleared. Afterwards he lodged a complaint with ACB.

In the meanwhile, Itware introduced the complainant to his 'agent', Atique Shaikh Ahmed (49), and asked the complainant to hand over the cash to him.

After verifying the complaint, the ACB arrested both Itware and Atique Shaikh today.
