A deputy sales tax commissioner and a clerk have been arrested after being caught on camera for allegedly accepting a bribe and remanded to four days police custody.

A trap was laid by the police, following a complaint and the duo - Charukesh Bhattacharya and Goutam Roy were caught on camera accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 yesterday, Asansol-Durgapur Additional Police Commissioner Sunil Yadav said today.

The duo had initially stopped a scrap iron-laden truck at Bhiringi More here yesterday and demanded a bribe of Rs 1.2 lakh from its driver despite being shown valid papers.

The driver called up the transporter, who in turn complained to Burdwan District Magistrate Saumitra Mohan.

The district magistrate complained to the police, who sent out plainclothesmen to contact Bhattacharya and Roy and pretended to seal the deal for Rs 25,000.

The two were caught on camera taking the money and were immediately arrested.

Mohan said there were complaints of extortion against Bhattacharya.

They were produced before a local court this morning and sent to police custody for four days.
