Fourteen followers of Dera Sacha Sauda sect have been acquitted by a local court in a case of causing damage to public property in 2010.

While one of the Dera followers died during the trial, the remaining 14 were acquitted by the court of District & Sessions Judge G S Bakshi yesterday.

The judge observed that the prosecution failed to establish its case against the accused.

Police had booked 15 followers of the sect for causing damage to public property on February 27, 2010.

Sect followers had gone on a rampage, setting ablaze trains and buses and vandalising public property after a murder case was registered against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a murder case.
