While announcing the hike, Chairman of DERC P D Sudhakar told a press conference that increase for domestic consumers will be around 26 per cent but hours later he said the hike would be 32 per cent.

The commision hiked the tariff for domestic consumers by 24.15 per cent besides imposing an eight per cent surcharge to help recover the discoms past losses.

However, later in the evening the DERC chairman clarified that the hike would be around 26 per cent taking into account the surcharge and the actual increase.

According to the DERC, the hike may vary in NDPL, BYPL and BRPL areas as eight per cent surcharge will be calculated based on separate fuel purchase cost submitted by the three discoms.

One official in the DERC said the hike in areas served by NDPL will be around 27.88 per cent while the increase in areas served by BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd and BSES Yamuna Power Ltd will be 25.47 per cent and 25.29 per cent respectively.
