The PWD of Delhi government today said it had completed the desilting of drains on roads across the national capital as per the set target before the monsoons to avoid water logging during the season.

"The work of desilting of drains on Public Works Department (PWD) Roads has been completed as per the target date. Total 920 kilometres of drain length along road has been desilted on 1,256 PWD Roads," Secretary of PWD department Arun Baroka said.

As extra measures, the department also has provided pumps at certain locations to take care of water logging, he said.

Lt Governor Najeeb Jung had asked the concerned departments to complete the desilting work by May end, before the monsoon starts, and had also also urged them to initiate strict criminal proceedings against those dumping debris at unauthorised sites within the city.

He had asked Municipal Corporations to carry out the desilting work of drains less than 4 feet in all unauthorised colonies, irrespective of the agency dealing with the development works therein.
