Dissatisfied with the manner of investigation in the Dhanekhali custodial death case, the Calcutta High Court today directed the West Bengal government to submit a detailed report on its progress on March 14.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Joymalyo Bagchi, hearing a prayer for CBI investigation into the custodial death of 38-year old Kaji Nasiruddin, expressed unhappiness with the manner of probe into the case being done by CID.
The court had earlier sought a report on why Nasiruddin was taken into custody on non-cognisable charges.

The report was placed before the court by the state government.
Advocate General Bimal Chatterjee prayed that the hearing be adjourned in the matter so that he could return with details to satisfy the court.
The bench, adjourning the matter for seven days, directed that the matter be posted for hearing on March 14.
Petitioner Pratim Singha Roy, an advocate, prayed that the CBI be handed over the investigation.
He claimed that as it was a case of custodial death, impartial investigation would not be possible under any state agency.
