Detainee fell ill in police lockup in UP

A 25-year-old man, who was detained in connection with bicycle theft, today fell ill in the police lockup allegedly after consuming "some" substance, police said.

Jitendra Singh, a resident of Kota in Rajasthan, had consumed some substance in lockup after which his health deteriorated and he was admitted to a private nursing home in Dholipiyau area here, they said.

Presently, he is undergoing treatment at a nursing home, they said, adding that his condition is stated to be serious.

He was nabbed by Government Railway Police (GRP) in connection with bicycle theft fom stand and was handed over to Bagbahadur Police Chowki, they said.
 

However, Additional Superitendent of Police, Shailesh Kumar Pandey said Jitendra's condition deterioated in the lockup but it is not known whether he consumed some poisnous substance or he was already suffering from any disease.

Reasons behind his deteriorating health could be ascertained once his condition inproves, he said.
