Detection of congenital heart disease among children done

Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services of Puducherry government has introduced a Public Private Partnership(PPP) scheme to screen and detect congenital heart disease among children.

A release from the Deputy Director J Allirani said positive cases of congenital heart ailment among children would be referred to private hospitals in Chennai for necessary operation.

The government will bear the expenditure for the surgery through the Puducherry State Health Mission, she said.

She said that this was part of the multi pronged and focussed interventionsto substantially bring down neo natal mortality rate in the Union Territory.

Stating that good infrastructures and health care facilities are made available at the district hospital with facilities for the care of the sickly babies and intensive neo natal care units are also in place she said comprehensive ante natal care, intra natal care and post natal care' is given to the pregnant women and new born babies at the community health centres and primary health centres.
