Additional Sessions Judge Suresh Chand Rajan ordered the official of ACE Detectives India, a firm which provides information to corporate entities, to give maintenance to his estranged wife, dismissing his plea against the magisterial court ruling for giving the alimony.
The ASJ dismissed the man's plea saying he had come in appeal before it too late. The man had filed the appeal in May 2012, nearly a year after the magisterial court's order, saying the magistrate has given his order ex-parte without hearing him.
"I am of the view that the man has failed to give any cause for not preferring the appeal within time. In fact, it seems the appellants have intentionally avoided to appear before the trial court," the court said.
In her plea for compensation, the woman had told the court that she was married to the man in April 2007 and was living at her matrimonial home in West Delhi, but soon began facing harassment and demand for more dowry, following which she also lodged complaint with police.
She said she was subsequently thrown out of her matrimonial house in 2009 for her failure to meet the demand for more dowry.
Living with her parents, the woman said she was not given a single penny for her maintenance, while her husband is earning Rs 30,000 a month.
