British-Indian actor Dev Patel may have lost a chance to win at the Golden Globes but the actor said he was proud to represent India on a global scale through his film "Lion".

"The canvas (of the movie) is bursting with humanity, really. There is a sense of pride that I can go there and represent the country on an international scale," Patel said on the red carpet event when asked about his experience of shooting in India.

The 26-year-old actor was accompanied by film's young star, Sunny Pawar, whom the interviewers mistakenly called Patel's brother.

Sunny plays the young Saroo Brierley, while Patel is in the grown-up version in the Garth Davis-directed movie about a man searching for his birth mother in India.

Patel lost out to Aaron Taylor-Johnson of "Nocturnal Animals" fame in the best supporting actor category at the awards, where the film returned empty-handed despite three nominations.

The movie, however, is not yet out of the awards' race as it is tipped to garner nominations at the Oscars, which will be announced on January 24.
