Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said there is a need to focus on holistic and comprehensive development of handicrafts and handlooms in the state to attract youngsters and budding entrepreneurs to venture into these fields.
"We have to make these sectors economically sound as that would attract the youth to get associated in the activities in these sectors," Omar said at a function here.
The function was organised to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in tripartite for implementation of scheme 'Revival, Reform and Reconstructing' (RRR) in the field of Handloom sector in the state.

Omar said there is a tremendous potential in the sector and handicrafts and handloom items of the state are reputed internationally.
The Chief Minister and the Union Minister expressed hope that the scheme, aimed at providing package to the weavers in handloom sector and helping ameliorate their lot besides giving a new dimension to the development of handloom sector, will prove highly successful and beneficial in the state, an official spokesman said.
He said matters relating to the comprehensive development of handicrafts, handlooms and artisans associated in these economically high important sectors also came up for discussion.
