Devendra Kumar Sharma joins as new BBMB chairman

Devendra Kumar Sharma, the Managing Director of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation, today joined as the chairman of Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).

BBMB is responsible for managing the release of water to Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan as it controls Bhakra, Pong and other dams.

Sharma comes with more than 35 years of experience in energy sector in India and abroad, said an official release here.

He received the Netherlands government fellowship in 1982 for studying Master of Engineering in Water Resources Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand.

New BBMB Chairman had undergone training courses in hydropower planning and design engineering from Canada (1987), Sweden (1989), Hungry (1991), Japan (1994) and Norway (1999 & 2003), it said.
 

Previously, he was working as MD and member of the Board of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (a government of Himachal Pradesh Undertaking).

As MD of HPPCL, he has been responsible for commissioning of 3x65 MW Kashang Hydroelectric Project and has completed 100 MW Sainj Project.

Apart from having experience of working for public sector in India and in Bhutan, Sharma has experience of working with Larsen & Toubro Ltd at a senior position almost for six years for construction of hydroelectric projects and also for development of company's proprietary ownership Hydroelectric Projects, release said.
