Several devotees today took holy dip in the sacred pond of 'Achleshawar dham' here, while paying obeisance to Lord Kartikey, the elder son of Lord Shiva, on the opening day of a two-day annual fair.

When Lord Shiva selected his younger son Ganesha as his successor, Lord Kartikey, who reached at this place, started living here. From that time onwards the place came to be known as Achal (Immovable).

It is also known that the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev, came to this holy place and argued with the saints, who were promoting the social evils like 'sati pratha', child marriage and untouchability which were prominent during that time, and thus a historical Gurudwara is also situated along with the temple showing harmony between the two communities.

Batala Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tulsi Ram said that a large number of police personnel has been deployed for maintaining law and order in the area.

Achleshwar Kar Seva Trust president Pawan Kumar said many sadhus and saints from far away places had reached the temple premises and more than thirty 'havan kunds' have been installed by them all around the temple sarovar where the yajna is being performed round the clock.
