Devotees throng temples to offer worship on auspicious day

Thousands of people today thronged various temples in various districts to offer worship during Celestial Weddings on the auspicious day of Panguni Uthiram.

More than two lakh devotees thronged the Murugan temple at Palani in Dindigul district to worship the main deity as the celestial wedding of Lord Muruga was performed with Devasena.Thousands of them carried 'Kavadi', a report said.

There was a rush of devotees at the temples of Lord Muruga in Tiruparankundram, Tiruchendhur and Solaimalai in South Tamil Nadu.

Worship on Panguni Uthiram day is believed to mitigate problems relating to marriages.

Similarly, devotees worshipped at Lord Ranganatha temple at Srirangam in Tiruchirapalli district and Lord Rangammannar and Goddess Andal temple at Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar district.
 

Celestial weddings of Lord Vishnu with Goddess Lakshmi were also performed at all Vaishnavite temples in South Tamil Nadu.

According to the Ramayana epic, Sita married Lord Rama on Panguni Uthiram and the day is also considered very important by Hindu people since it happens to be the birthday of Lord Ayyappa and Goddess Lakshmi.

Tight security arrangements had been made and election commission is keeping vigil to prevent political parties from taking advantage of the occasion,sources said.
