Hundreds of devotees offered worship to the idol of Lord Kallazhagar when it was brought in a procession to the Vaigai river,as part of the famous Chitrai festival here.

Devotees participated in the "Theerthavari" (splashing water on the deity).

Attired in Green silk indicating prosperity, the deity entered the river amid chants of "Govinda"..

According to the legend, Lord Vishnu entered the river to relieve "Mandooka rishi" of a curse by Sage Durvasa for insulting him.

Meanwhile, one person was taken into custody for questioning after he was found moving about suspiciously in the early hours at Tallakulam temple where the idol was kept overnight.

Police said the man told them that he had come from Pudukottai district to visit his friend.
