DGP holds meeting with district police top brass to review

West Bengal Director General of Police Surajit Kar Purakayastha held a high level meeting in West Midnapore district with top police officiers in five south Bengal districts to take stock of regular security measures.

Purakayastha, after holding the meeting of SPs of West Midnapore, Purulia, Birbhum, Jhargram (police district) and Bankura, told reporters they reviewed the overall law and order situation and took stock of the past incidents of crime in the closed door deliberations.

However, another police officer said this morning the meeting also took note of report of Maoists trying to make a come back in the junglemahal belt from adjoining Jharkhand.
 

The police officer referred to discoveries of landmine in Belpahari and Salboni in recent times and intelligence report that Maoists were trying to sneak through the West Singhbhum corridor of Jharkhand.

It was decided that in the run-up to the festive season, the police top brass will hold meetings with their counterparts in neighbouring states of Jharkhand and Bihar, the officer, not wishing to be named, said.
