"Recognizing the spirit of public service, bravery and human values, exhibited by the personnel of Jammu and Kashmir Police in recent floods, Director General of Police K Rajendra Kumar, today sanctioned cash reward of Rs 2.92 lakhs for different ranks of the force," an official spokesman said here today.

He said that the decision was taken at a meeting of senior police officers held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here this morning.

Presiding the meeting, the DGP said that devastating floods damaged properties at a large scale in the Valley and some parts of the Jammu division and the police personnel, despite loosing their personal properties, immediately braced up themselves in their jurisdictions and saved a number of human lives in the flood hit areas.

Kumar said, the personnel of different wings of the force, ignoring their personal comforts were found busy in rescuing the affected people in different areas to safer locations.

JKP has been focusing on human values and public service, and would always be ready to help the people in the time of need, the DGP said.

The rewards have been sanctioned on the recommendations of the senior field officers and the feedback received from the people of affected areas, he added.
