Some members of Dhangar community allegedly threw yellow coloured powder (bhandara) on Maharashtra education minister Vinod Tawde at a function in Solapur city today to press for their demand to rename the Solapur University after Punyashlok Ahilyabai Holkar.
Ahilyabai Holkar is a iconic figure of Dhangar community from 18th century.
The incident took place during the award distribution programme for ideal teacher at Hutatma Smriti Mandir hall in the city.

Police have detained five persons but charges were yet to be slapped against them. Tawde asked police not to be harsh with them.
The minister later clarified that his office had already received applications for three names -- Siddheshwar, Basaveshwar and Ahilyabai Holkar to be given to the university.
"It seems some people are rushing instead of allowing the system to process. University senate has to pass a resolution; then the state can go ahead," said the education minister.
Meanwhile, the Lingayat community today took out a march in the city in support of their demand for naming the university after Siddheshwar Maharaj, an iconic figure of the community.
